Jurassic World Dominion director says the new dinosaur is like The Joker

April 9, 2022 by EJ Moreno

During a recent interview with Empire Magazine, director Colin Trevorrow unleashed new information about the upcoming Jurassic World Dominion. Fans of villainous dinosaurs will jump for joy when they learn about the new beast coming.

Meet the Giganotosaurus, also known as Giga. This monstrous new dinosaur will wreak havoc against our main characters in the latest film. There’s also a real dark side to Giga, something Trevorrow compares to the iconic Batman villain, The Joker!

“I wanted something that felt like the Joker,” writer-director Colin Trevorrow says to Empire about the Giga. “It just wants to watch the world burn.”

Unlike the recent baddies like the Indominus or the Indoraptor, Empire notes that this bad-ass dinosaur is a “scientifically-documented giant of the Late Cretaceous period.”

The Giga will be found at the amber-rich BioSyn Valley. Many long-time Jurassic Park fans will recognize BioSyn as the rival company to the franchise legacy brand InGen. “BioSyn got the contract to house the dinosaurs that have been captured around the world via various governments,” Trevorrow notes of the Dominion plot. “They claim it’s a research facility where they can study the pharmaceutical values of the animals. But there’s some other stuff going on.”

In a last tease for Jurassic World Dominion, Trevorrow promises audiences a brand-new experience: “It’s an entirely new kind of movie. It’s the thing I’ve been waiting to do this whole time.”

This summer, experience the epic conclusion to the Jurassic era as two generations unite for the first time. Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard are joined by Oscar®-winner Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum, and Sam Neill in Jurassic World Dominion, a bold, timely, and breathtaking new adventure that spans the globe.

From Jurassic World architect and director Colin Trevorrow, Dominion takes place four years after Isla Nublar has been destroyed. Dinosaurs now live—and hunt—alongside humans all over the world. This fragile balance will reshape the future and determine, once and for all, whether human beings are to remain the apex predators on a planet they now share with history’s most fearsome creatures.

The film features new cast members DeWanda Wise (She’s Gotta Have It), Emmy nominee Mamoudou Athie (Archive 81), Dichen Lachman (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), Scott Haze (Minari), and Campbell Scott (The Amazing Spider-Man 2). The film’s returning cast includes BD Wong as Dr. Henry Wu, Justice Smith as Franklin Webb, Daniella Pineda as Dr. Zia Rodriguez, and Omar Sy as Barry Sembenè.

Jurassic World Dominion comes to cinemas on June 10th, 2022.
