Variety is reporting that Kate Hudson (Almost Famous) is set to join the cast of Deepwater Horizon, opposite Mark Wahlberg (The Departed).
Hudson is to play the wife of Wahlberg’s character, and tells the story of the 2010 Deepwater Horizon explosion which killed 11 men and injured others who worked on the rig.
Peter Berg (Lone Survivor) is directing the film from a script from Matthew Michael Carnahan (World War Z), and will also star Hudson’s step-dad Kurt Russell (marking the first time the two have been in a film together), as well as John Malkovich (Con Air), Gina Rodriguez (The Bold and The Beautiful) and Dylan O’Brien (The Maze Runner).
Lionsgate is producing the film, which is set for a September 2016 release.
