Ghostbusters and Saturday Night Live star Kate McKinnon has signed on for the title role in Amblin Entertainment’s adaptation of Deb Lucke’s YA novel The Lunch Witch, which will mark the live-action directorial debut of Angry Birds co-helmer Clay Kaytis.
Published in 2015, The Lunch Witch follows Grunhilda, a witch who inherits her ancestors’ recipies and cauldrons, but is unable to put them to good use as the world no longer believes in magic. She takes on a job as a school lunch lady, where she delights in scaring students until she strikes up an unlikely friendship with a timid young girl called Madison.
McKinnon can currently be seen in cinemas in Office Christmas Party, and has Rock That Body set for release next year, where she stars alongside Zoe Kravitz, Scarlett Johansson and Demi Moore.
