We will return to the world of Venom once again, and Kelly Marcel is coming along for the ride.
The writer of the first two entries is returning to once again pen the script for Venom 3, but she will also serve as the film’s director as well. Deadline reports Marcel will direct the latest installment, with Tom Hardy returning as the titular character.
Little is known about Venom 3, but reports say Hardy and Marcel are cooking up something grand. Fans wonder if the film will have anything to do with the Spider-Man: No Way Home tease or build off the ever-growing Sony Marvel universe.
Deadline notes that Hardy announced on social media that Marcel was returning and they were currently developing a script. Due to Marcel’s closeness with Hardy and the Venom world, Deadline’s sources claim it just made sense for Sony Pictures to bring her on as director.
Marcel wrote the first Venom film with Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg. She served as the sole writer for the sequel and co-wrote the story with Tom Hardy.
While Venom 3 will be her directorial debut, Marcel has worked on many high-profile Hollywood gigs. She penned the script that launched the Fifty Shades of Grey franchise, wrote the story for 2021’s Cruella, and even created the short-lived FOX series Terra Nova.
You can see Marcel’s work next on The Changeling, coming soon to Apple TV+.
