The cast for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is taking shape, and the film is looking to be a stellar entry in the Apes franchise.
In the latest casting news, Kevin Durand is set to join 20th Century’s Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. Deadline reports, “Durand would be playing an Ape, and the character is likely to be the villain in the new film.”
Durand joins Owen Teague, Freya Allan, and Peter Macon in the project, which is set to be directed by Wes Ball.
As previously reported, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is an all-new entry into the modern Apes franchise. So, while the film is set in the same universe as Matt Reeves’ recent Apes films, this takes place many years after the conclusion of 2017’s War for the Planet of the Apes.
The Planet of the Apes franchise is massively successful, grossing over $1.7 billion at the worldwide box office since its debut in 1968. The original film was followed by four theatrical sequels and two TV series.
We saw the first Apes reboot in 2001, directed by Tim Burton, and a new set of films with the 2011 reboot Rise of the Planet of the Apes, which was followed by two sequels, 2014’s Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and 2017’s War for the Planet of the Apes.
Filming on The Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is slated to get underway before the end of the year.
