After years of rumours, the big screen adaptation of the classic board game Monopoly looks like it’s finally set to pass go, with Deadline reporting that Kevin Hart has signed on to star in the movie, which will reunite him with his Ride Along director Tim Story.
Plot details for the film are being kept tightly under wraps. As Deadline reveals, a previous incarnation of the project has followed a man on a quest to make his fortune, but it’s unclear whether this incarnation will follow a similar path.
Lionsgate is teaming with Hasbro’s Allspark Pictures to produce the movie, which has been in development for over a decade and has had Andrew Niccol (The Truman Show) and Ridley Scott (Alien) attached at various points.
After dropping out as host of the Oscars following a backlash against past anti-LGBTQ tweets, Hart is currently preparing to go into production on Sony’s Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle sequel, and has The Secret Life of Pets 2 incoming this May. Story meanwhile has his Shaft sequel set for release in June.
