Despite the recent news that Marvel Television is closing its doors, with TV output falling under the remit of Marvel Studios, it was reported that the entertainment giant will continue to move ahead with all of its previously announced projects, and now Kevin Smith has confirmed that, as far as he is aware, it’s business as usual on his animated Howard the Duck series.
“Now, Marvel TV won’t cease to exist; it’s just becoming this different version,” said Smith on his Fatman Beyond podcast. “I hear the Hulu shows are still alive. So far, so good for Howard the Duck. I’ll let you know if anything happens.”
While the likes of Cloak & Dagger and Runaways have been cancelled, and the planned Ghost Rider live-action series axed, Marvel has a live-action Helstrom show in development for Hulu, along with the aforementioned Howard the Duck and an animated slate that includes M.O.D.O.K., Hit-Monkey and The Offenders (a Tigra & Dazzler show was also announced, but is currently on hiatus after dropping its creative team earlier in the month).
Howard the Duck isn’t the only animated series that Smith is currently working on, with the Jay & Silent Bob filmmaker also helping to develop the anime series Masters of the Universe: Revelation for Netflix.
Marvel’s Howard the Duck is trapped in a world he never made, but America’s favorite fighting fowl hopes to return home with the help of his unstoppable gal pal Beverly before the evil Dr. Bong can turn him into the crispiest dish on the menu.
