Kevin Smith says that the planned Ghostbusters sequel is going to be “amazing”.
There are a lot of very excited people when it comes to the recently announced Ghostbusters sequel directed by Jason Reitman. Kevin Smith, a huge Ghostbusters fan and nerd culture lover, might be more excited than anyone, however.
And this is because he’s actually had some inside details on the project shared with him by none other than Reitman himself. Speaking to Marc Bernardin on his podcast (via ComicBook.com), they began discussing the big news:
“So, they’re making another Ghostbusters movie,” Bernardin started.
“Yes! This was exciting wonderful fucking news that we got last week,” Smith replied. “Well, you guys got last week. I heard… I heard a long time ago. Jason Reitman was over the house and did an episode of SModcast a couple weeks back and before we did the show we were sitting around talking, because Jason had a bit of a rough year. He had two movies come out and then neither of them, like, you know, fucking set the world on fire and stuff. And they’re both really well done movies, but, you know, nothing about his work changed. If anything, he got better at his job, but the response hasn’t been the same as it was earlier in his career, and I’m like ‘oh I know a thing or two about that.’”

When Reitman explained that he had a new project come his way and that it was none other than Ghostbusters, Smith was beyond thrilled.
“I was like, ‘holy fuck, man!’ I was like, ‘I was sitting here counseling you and your break the glass plan is Ghostbusters III?! Fuck me in the mouth, congratulations!,” Smith said. “I kept it quiet and shit, so he better put me in the fucking movie. He told me some shit and, to be fair, he did not give it up freely. I had to drag shit out of him and I had to trick some shit out of him, but he told me some shit that had me go like ‘alright, now I just need to stay alive until 2020’ because this movie is definitely worth seeing. Definitely going to be a Ghostbusters movie that makes lots of folks happy. I think we may have something here. I think it’s gonna be special.”
Well, Smith’s excitement is certainly infectious and one can hope he is right in his optimism. What do you think? Will the Ghostbusters sequel deliver a worthy follow up to the beloved franchise? Let us know in the comments below or tweet us @FlickeringMyth…
