Kevin Smith has been making the rounds lately directing episodes of superhero television shows like The Flash and Supergirl, and now he’s taking on Batman… sort of.
According to IGN, Smith will next helm an episode of the ABC comedy series The Goldbergs centered on the impending release of Tim Burton’s 1989 film, Batman.
The episode begins filming next week, and is titled “Dynamic Duo.” It will be about the excitement surrounding the 1989 film, which Smith himself has shown a lot of affection for on his Fatman on Batman podcast. Here’s what Smith had to say about the new gig:
“I grew up watching Adam West Batman and I was in a sold out movie theater for Tim Burton’s Batman on opening day, June 23rd, 1989, so I can’t wait to recreate those early eras of Bat-mania in the Goldbergs Universe. Luckily, the funny folks in front of and behind the cameras who make this hysterical show every week will be doing all the heavy lifting in our time travel experiment.”
The Goldbergs returns tonight, Wednesday January 4th, for its first episode in 2017. Smith’s episode doesn’t have an official air date yet, but is expected to arrive later this Spring.
