YouTube has granted a 10-episode series order to the one-hour dark comedy series On Becoming A God In Central Florida, which has Kirsten Dunst attached to star and executive produce.
Previously in development at AMC and written by Robert Funke and Matt Lutsky, On Becoming A God in Central Florida takes place near Orlando in the 1990s, with Dunst playing Krystal Gill, “a minimum-wage-earning water park employee who will eventually scheme her way up the ranks of Founders American Merchandise: the cultish, flag waving, multi-billion dollar pyramid scheme that drove her family to ruin.”
George Clooney and Grant Heslov’s Smokehouse Pictures are producing the series with Sony TV, the company behind YouTube’s hit original series Cobra Kai. Charlie McDowell (The Discovery) is attached to direct, with Esta Spalding serving as showrunner.
Dunst previously starred on the small screen in the second season of FX’s Fargo, for which she received Emmy Award and Golden Globe nominations.
