Kong: Skull Island director linked to Gambit movie

May 8, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Despite passing through the hands of several directors and pushing back numerous production starts and planned release dates, 20th Century Fox still hasn’t given up on its ambitions of a Gambit solo movie featuring Channing Tatum as the fan favourite mutant Remy LeBeau.

The latest reports claim that Fox is looking to get cameras rolling on Gambit in June in order to meet its June 2019 release, and now speculation is mounting that Kong: Skull Island helmer Jordan Vogt-Roberts could be in contention to direct.

Vogt-Roberts sparked the speculation by sharing the following image to Snapchat before removing it less than 24 hours later (but not before OmegaUnderground managed to grab a screenshot)…

This was followed by a Tweet from The Wrap’s El Mayimbe, claiming that Vogt-Roberts is one of several directors meeting with Fox about the X-Men spinoff movie…

Um, actually nobody is "in talks" to direct GAMBIT. @VogtRoberts had a meeting but so will 5 or 6 other directors.

So, this could be nothing, but if Fox does plan on starting production within the next couple of months, we should expect to hear an announcement on a director very soon indeed. Or – perhaps more likely – news that it’s been pushed back yet again…
