Deadline is reporting that Kristen Stewart will be taking on the role of actress Jean Seberg (Breathless) in the upcoming political thriller Against All Enemies, which is being directed by Benedict Andrews (Una).
American actress Seberg divided her time between Hollywood and France, where she became a darling of the French New Wave. However, due to her support of various civil rights groups, including the Black Panther Party, she was also a target of the FBI’s COINTELPRO project where the FBI set out to discredit the actress and cheapen her image with the public.
Stewart – who like Seberg has also enjoyed critical success in France with her roles in Clouds of Sils Maria and Personal Shopper – will be joined in the cast of Against All Enemies by Jack O’Connell (Unbroken), Anthony Mackie (Captain America: Civil War), Margaret Qualley (The Leftovers) and Colm Meaney (The Journey).
“We feel unbelievably lucky to have Benedict Andrews’ fierce talent coupled with an astonishing ensemble of actors giving voice to this riveting and frighteningly urgent story,” reads a statement from the producers. “[Against All Enemies] is a profoundly topical movie, both thrilling and moving. Kristen Stewart will give the depth required for this fearless character, supported by an amazing ensemble cast. It will be an epic tale of conspiracy and glamour. We couldn’t be more excited to be part of this outstanding project.”
Stewart has three films expected to arrive this year in the true crime drama Lizzie, action thriller Underwater, and biographical drama JT LeRoy.
