What do you get if you cross the director of a five-star film like Saint Maud with a five-star performance like the Academy-Award nominated one given by Kristen Stewart in Spencer? The answer appears to be A24 and Film4’s Love Lies Bleeding, which has just cast Kristen Stewart for director Rose Glass.
Deadline has confirmed that Glass will direct from a script that she co-wrote with Weronika Tofilska (His Dark Materials), and that Stewart will take the lead in a romantic thriller which examines a romance fuelled by ego, desire and the American Dream. Film4 developed the film alongside Glass and will co-finance with A24, which is producing and handling the pic’s worldwide release.
Rose Glass was BAFTA nominated for Saint Maud, which managed to earn $1.1M at a U.K. box-office decimated by the pandemic in late 2020, and garner an astonishing 17 nods at the 2020 British Independent Film Awards, where she was awarded the Douglas Hickox Award for Debut Director.
Stewart is coming of the back of career best notices for portraying Princess Diana in Pablo Larraín’s Spencer, and has already lined up David Cronenberg sci-fi Crimes of the Future, alongside Viggo Mortensen and Léa Seydoux, as well as inking a deal to star in HBO’s Irma Vep.
