On the eve of its season finale, SyFy has announced it has renewed the Superman prequel Krypton for a second season. The series is expected to return in 2019.
Set two generations before the destruction of the legendary Man of Steel’s home planet, Krypton follows Superman’s grandfather Seg-El — whose House of El was ostracized and shamed — as he fights to redeem his family’s honour and save his beloved world from chaos. The time-travelling hero Adam Strange came back to Krypton with a warning of a distant threat out to destroy Krypton and Seg’s future grandson – Brainiac, the Collector of Worlds. Seg has to unite the various factions in the city of Kandor to preserve the future and Superman’s legacy.
Krypton has been SyFy’s most successful debut series since 2014’s Ascension and the most watched season for a scripted series since 2015’s Defiance. Its first season has done really well, only coming behind SyFy’s current flagship series The Magicians in terms of ratings.
Krypton has starred Cameron Cuffe, Georgina Campbell, Elliot Cowan, Ann Ogbomo, Rasmus Hardiker, Wallis Day, Aaron Pierre, Ian McElhinney, Shaun Sipos, Blake Ritson and Colin Salmon.
