The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Jennifer Yuh Nelson, director of the King Fu Panda movies, is set to make her live-action debut with an adaptation of Alexandra Bracken’s YA trilogy Darkest Minds.
Darkest Minds “is set after a pandemic kills most of America’s children and teenagers. When some survivors develop various superpowers, they are deemed too dangerous for society, taken from their families and placed inside internment camps.” Described as a blend of “coming-of-age stories such as Stand By Me and post-apocalyptic survivor tales like The Walking Dead”, the first book follows a 16-year-old girl with telekinetic powers who escapes one such camp and joins up with a group of teens on the run from the government.
The film is being produced by Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum), while Chad Hodge (Wayward Pines) has penned the script.
