After a nationwide casting search which incorporated roughly 800 young actresses, Deadline is reporting that Kyliegh Curran (I Can I Will I Did, Broadway’s The Lion King) has been cast in the key role of Abra Stone in the upcoming Stephen King adaptation Doctor Sleep.
A sequel to The Shining, Doctor Sleep stars Ewan McGregor as a now adult Danny Torrance, who is working as a hospice nurse using his abilities to heal the sick as he attempts to put his past behind him. He soon meets Abra, a young girl who possesses ‘the shining’ and is being targeted by the True Knot – a psychic cult which feeds on the “steam” created by children who possess the special ability.
In addition to McGregor and Curran, the film will star Rebecca Ferguson (Mission: Impossible – Fallout) as Rose the Hat, the leader of the True Knot, Alex Essoe (Starry Eyes) as Wendy Torrance and Carl Lumbly (Supergirl) as Dick Halloran.
Doctor Sleep is being written and directed by Mike Flanagan (Gerald’s Game) and is set for release on January 24th 2020.
