Lady Gaga wears ridiculous outfits and empowers people worldwide; for many around the world, she’s already a superhero. But the musician and actress could be gearing up to play one of Marvel or DC’s biggest heroes.
In a recent interview with Variety, Gaga was asked if she would ever appear in a comic book movie, and thankfully she didn’t shut down the question like many prestige-based actors before her.
“I might, yeah. It’s really hard for me to say that I wouldn’t do something. I think mostly I’m not interested in doing things that don’t ultimately have something meaningful to say,” said Gaga. “And I did House of Gucci because I thought Patrizia Reggiani as a character had something to say, and there was something in the script that was really valuable for women, and I care about women.”
“Meaningful to say” is a somewhat subjective term, but these days, comic book movies are trying to hit more than just entertainment factors. Logan proved you can add emotional moments to the most brutal films, and even Birds of Prey (a project she was linked with) was packed with powerful messages amongst its chaos. Lady Gaga could easily find herself in one of the more socially conscious-type of superhero films, especially with the big brands looking to reinvent themselves in this new comic book movie age.
Lady Gaga is proving to be a bit of a box office name, with her film House of Gucci pulling in solid numbers thanks to her pop music following and awards acclaim. The Ridley Scott film is nearing $100 million worldwide on a $75 million budget; that’s a surprise due to the state of adult dramas during the pandemic and mediocre reviews.
Any superhero franchise would be lucky to land someone like Lady Gaga. Which comic book character do you want to see Gaga tackle in an upcoming film?
House of Gucci is inspired by the shocking true story of the family empire behind the Italian fashion house of Gucci. Spanning three decades of love, betrayal, decadence, revenge, and ultimately murder, we see what a name means, what it’s worth, and how far a family will go for control.
House of Gucci features a cast that includes Lady Gaga as Patrizia Reggiani, Adam Driver as Maurizio Gucci, Jared Leto as Paolo Gucci, Jeremy Irons as Rodolfo Gucci, and Al Pacino as Aldo Gucci. Jack Huston, Reeve Carney, Salma Hayek, Camille Cottin, and Mãdãlina Ghenea also star in the film.
