If you’ve ever wanted the always amazing Lakeith Stanfield to play a samurai, the right project is finally here for you as Netflix has just dropped the first trailer for Yasuke, and it looks like a bloody good time.
The animated series will follow the story of Yasuke, a real-life Black samurai in feudal Japan. Stanfield will voice the legendary historical figure in what should be an epic tale. The series is created by LeSean Thomas, who also serves as executive producer and director of the series from Japanese animation studio MAPPA. Takeshi Koike handled all the striking character designs, and Stanfield serves as an executive producer.
The voice cast also features Ming-Na Wen, Darren Criss, Takehiro Hira, Maya Tanida, Paul Nakauchi, Julie Marcus, William Christopher Stephens, Dia Frampton, Don Donahue, Amy Hill, and Noshi Dalal.
In a war-torn feudal Japan filled with mechs and magic, the greatest ronin never known, Yasuke, struggles to maintain a peaceful existence after a past life of violence. But when a local village becomes the center of social upheaval between warring daimyo, Yasuke must take up his sword and transport a mysterious child who is the target of dark forces and bloodthirsty warlords.
