Lauren Cohan-headlined Whiskey Cavalier ordered to series by ABC, leaving Maggie’s Walking Dead future uncertain

May 15, 2018 by Gary Collinson

ABC has announced that it has granted a series order to Whiskey Cavalier, a new action dramedy headlined by The Walking Dead actress Lauren Cohan. The official synopsis reads:

Whiskey Cavalier is a high-octane, hour-long action dramedy that follows the adventures of tough but tender FBI super-agent Will Chase (codename: “Whiskey Cavalier”), played by Scott Foley. Following an emotional break-up, Chase is assigned to work with badass CIA operative Francesca “Frankie” Trowbridge (codename: “Fiery Tribune”), played by Lauren Cohan. Together, they lead an inter-agency team of flawed, funny and heroic spies who periodically save the world (and each other) while navigating the rocky roads of friendship, romance and office politics.

At this point, it’s a little unclear as to what impact Whiskey Cavalier will have on Cohan’s role as Maggie Rhee in AMC’s The Walking Dead, which is gearing up to go into production on its ninth season.

As you may be aware, Cohan was cast in Whiskey Cavalier following a contract dispute on The Walking Dead, but has since signed on to return as Maggie for six of the eight episodes in the first half of the zombie drama’s ninth season.

Beyond that, however, it is said that she would need to negotiate a deal to shoot TWD while on hiatus from Whiskey Cavalier, meaning that her continued involvement does not appear to be set in stone.
