Laurence Fishburne (The Matrix) has joined the cast of the upcoming sci-fi space film Passengers, a new report from The Hollywood Reporter confirms.
Fishburne, whose role in the film is unknown, will be acting alongside Jennifer Lawrence (The Hunger Games) and Chris Pratt (Jurassic World), two of Hollywood’s biggest stars. They are set to play the roles of Aurora and Jim Preston, while actor Michael Sheen (Frost/Nixon), who also recently came on board the project, will play a robot.
In the future, Fishburne will be popping up in such films as Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Standoff. Currently, he stars on NBC’s critically acclaimed series Hannibal.
A spacecraft traveling to a distant colony planet and transporting thousands of people has a malfunction in one of its sleep chambers. As a result, a single passenger is awakened 60 years early. Faced with the prospect of growing old and dying alone, he eventually decides to wake up a second passenger.
Morten Tyldum (The Imitation Game) is set to direct, with Jon Spaihts (Doctor Strange) penning the film’s script. Passengers is scheduled to be released on December 21, 2016 release.
