Legendary Entertainment has picked up the film and TV rights to Jeff Lemire’s Eisner-winning superhero comic book series Black Hammer, The Hollywood Reporter has revealed.
The comic, published by Dark Horse, is described as “a multi-generational narratives spanning multiple genres and eras” and investigates the fate of superheroes and villains in the fictional world of Spiral City. Black Hammer won the Eisner Award for Best New Series in 2017, and has spawned several spinoff titles including Sherlock Frankenstein and Doctor Star.
According to THR’s report, Legendary is planning on developing both feature film and TV projects to deliver “a multiplatform, interconnected universe of characters and storytelling that audiences today really yearn for.”
Black Hammer joins several Lemire projects in development for the screen, including adaptations of the Image Comics series Gideon Falls and the IDW title Underwater Welder, the latter of which has Ryan Gosling producing.
