With Kong: Skull Island smashing its way to a $142.6 million global opening at the box office, Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures have started turning their attention to the big 2020 showdown between the two stars of the MonsterVerse, setting a writers room for Godzilla vs. Kong.
According to THR, Terry Rossio (Pirates of the Caribbean) has been hired to lead the writers room that features Patrick McKay and J.D. Payne (Star Trek Beyond), Lindsey Beer (The Kingkiller Chronicles), T.S. nowlin (Pacific Rim: Uprising), Jack Paglen (Alien: Covenant), Cat Vasko (Queen of the Air) and J. Michael Straczynski (Babylon 5).
As with Paramount Pictures’ approach to the Transformers franchise and Universal on its Classic Monsters Universe, the team will look to crack the story for Godzilla vs. Kong, before selecting a writer to then pen the screenplay.
Before we get to Godzilla vs. Kong, Warner Bros. and Legendary have Godzilla: King of Monsters set to arrive on March 22nd 2019, with Michael Dougherty (Krampus) directing.
