On a chilly night in Jacksonville, Florida, All Elite Wrestling made history again. In arguably the biggest signing in the young company’s history, Sting has joined AEW and looks to be staying around for quite some time.
It’s reported that the 35-year-wrestling veteran has signed a multi-year deal with All Elite Wrestling, joining a long list of industry icons that includes the likes of Chris Jericho, Jim Ross, Christopher Daniels, and Jake “The Snake” Roberts.
There’s no word on if he’ll be returning to the ring for AEW, but his last run in WWE was cut short to an injury that led him to retirement. This marks Sting’s first time on the channel TNT since WCW closed its doors in 2001.
During a post-match beatdown, Team Taz (Ricky Starks, Powerhouse Hobbs, Brian Cage, and Taz) attacked Cody Rhodes and TNT Champion Darby Allin. After a failed help attempt from Dustin Rhodes, Sting made his dramatic entrance and scared off Team Taz. He was not done yet as he began to face off with every single member of Cody’s team and lingered on the newcomer Darby Allin. Many have compared Allin’s moody persona to Sting’s later WCW work.
Sting will speak about this arrival on next week’s Dynamite show. AEW already began selling Sting merchandise.
