Having signed a first-look deal with Netflix, Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way production company looks to have found its first project for the streaming giant, with The Tracking Board reporting that the Oscar-winner is set to produce the action thriller The Outlaw Ocean.
Based on a series of articles by reporter Ian Urbina for The New York Times Magazine, the film will “recount the true story of a vigilante crew that stalked a fugitive fishing ship considered the world’s most notorious poacher for 110 days and across two seas and three oceans.”
Under DiCaprio’s deal with Netflix, the focus is to “produce non-fiction based films and docu-series with topical and provocative environmental themes”, which is a subject close to the actor’s heart. In addition to Netflix, Appian Way also has a first-look deal with Paramount, and reportedly has over two-dozen projects in development for film and TV.
