With the reports this week that comic book Watchmen and Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan are set to get the television treatment, you can now add 80’s action favourite Lethal Weapon into the mix, says The Hollywood Reporter.
Fox has reportedly put an order in to Warner Bros. TV from Forever scribe Matt Miller for a new series, which will be based on the hit 1987 film starring Mel Gibson and Danny Glover.
The television adaptation will revolve “around the unlikely partnership between a former Navy SEAL and Texas cop who moves to Los Angeles after the death of his wife and baby and winds up teamed with an LAPD detective who must avoid stress at any cost because of a heart condition.”
Lethal Weapon became a franchise over subsequent years, with sequels in 1989, 1992 and 1998, and collectively grossed over $936 million worldwide. A fifth film has long been mooted, but has so far never come to fruition.
