Chinese actress Li Bingbing (Transformers: Age of Extinction) has signed on to the cast of Warner Bros.’ prehistoric shark adventure Meg, replacing her namesake Fan Bingbing (X-Men: Days of Future Past), who has had to drop out of the project due to scheduling issues.
Based upon Steve Alten’s Meg: A Novel of Deep Terror, the film is being directed by Jon Turteltaub (National Treasure) and will star Jason Statham (Mechanic: Resurrection) as a former Navy diver turned paleontologist recruited to track down a Megalodon – an ancient (and gigantic) shark – which has escaped from the Mariana Trench.
Statham and Li will be joined in the cast of the film by Jessica McNamee (The Vow), Masi Oka (Heroes), Rainn Wilson (Cooties) and Ruby Rose (Orange Is the New Black). It is set for release on March 2nd 2018.
