Warner Bros. may be struggling to find a director for The Batman following tonight’s news that Matt Reeves has exited talks, but if The Wrap is to be believed, the studio has found a filmmaker for another of its DC projects.
According to the site, Lights Out director David F. Sandberg is in talks to direct Shazam, which has Dwayne Johnson attached to star as the antihero Black Adam (a role he’ll also fill in the recently-announced Black Adam solo spinoff). It’s not being reported by any of the other trades yet, so we’ll have to consider this a rumour for the time being.
Shazam follows a young boy called Billy Batson who can transform into the titular superhero by saying the word “Shazam”. It is being produced by New Line Cinema, but has been confirmed as existing in the wider DC Extended Universe.
Swedish filmmaker Sandberg earned rave reviews for his 2016 feature debut Lights Out, and has Annabelle 2 set to arrive in cinemas in August.
