Linda Cardellini is set to play mother to one of cinema’s most iconic slashers with the news that she has been officially cast as Pamela Voorhees in Friday the 13th prequel series Crystal Lake.
Per Variety’s report the Bloodlines and Scooby Doo star will take the lead role in the A24 backed Peacock prequel series, which will depict events before Pamela Vorhees went on her rampage of revenge in the 1980’s slasher classic Friday the 13th. Her demise in the original film led to her hockey-mask wearing son Jason becoming the antagonist for a further eleven sequels/reboots.
Described as an “expanded prequel”, Crystal Lake is being overseen by Welcome to Derry showrunner Brad Caleb Lane, who inherited the keys to the holiday camp from Hannibal‘s Bryan Fuller, in what was just one of a number of many creative hiccups suffered by the project since it was first announced in 2022.
Released in 1980, Friday the 13th grossed $60 million at the worldwide box-office, spawning a series of films that have never quite matched the horror of the original, the last of which was 2009’s lamentable reboot.
