It’s time to start thinking about your dream casting for Milburn Pennybags (the guy in the top hat. Who knew?), or who will voice the CGI Scottish Terrier playing-piece, because Lionsgate and Hasbro have decided to roll the dice on a Monopoly movie.
Following Lionsgate’s Monopoly-style acquisition of Entertainment One’s TV and film operations from Hasbro, Collider are reporting that the long-gestating adaptation of the property trading board game Monopoly is finally set to pass go.
Stories about a Monopoly movie have been around for longer than it takes to earn enough money to buy Park Place or Boardwalk. A Kevin Hart comedy adaptation was rumoured in 2019, while at one time Ridley Scott was attached to direct.
Now it appears that the success of Barbie has studios scrambling to get their hands on IP that they can make as successful as Mattel’s poster-girl, and with the Lionsgate deal including a content library of nearly 6,500 titles, a few of those have to be worth taking a chance on.
