Variety reports that Amazon is now working on series in the world of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. It will focus on Lisbeth Salander, the character created by Stieg Larsson for the Millennium books.
The project will keep the title of the original novel, but will not be a continuation of any story from the books or the films. Instead, Amazon’s The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo will take the Lisbeth Salander character and place her in a completely modern world with a new setting, new characters, and a new story.
At the time of reporting, no writer or lead actress is attached to the series. Andy Harries will executive produce along with Rob Bullock. Amazon Studios and Harries’ Left Bank will produce in association with Sony Pictures Television.
Lisbeth Salander is the protagonist of the Millennium book series, which consists of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played With Fire, and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets’ Nest. Three actresses have played the character on the big screen with The Crown‘s Claire Foy stepping into the role for 2018’s The Girl in the Spider’s Web. Noomi Rapace and Rooney Mara have both played the character in the Swedish and American versions of Dragon Tattoo, respectively.
