Earlier this month it was announced that MGM has tapped director Lars Klevberg (Polaroid) to helm a “contemporary reboot” of the cult 80s horror Child’s Play, and now we may have our first piece of casting news.
According to That Hashtag Show, The Lord of the Rings and The Incredible Hulk star Liv Tyler has been offered the role of Andy’s mother Karen, who was played by Catherine Hucks in the 1988 original. Karen gives her son a highly-sought after Chucky doll for his birthday, only to discover that this particular doll has been possessed by a sadistic serial killer.
The new Child’s Play has been scripted by Tyler Burton Smith (Kung Fury) and is being produced by David Katzenberg and Seth Grahame-Smith (It).
Franchise creator Don Mancini and Chucky voice actor Brad Dourif are not attached to the remake in any capacity, although they are planning to continue the original series on the small screen with the recently announced Child’s Play: The TV Series.
