Back in October of 2018 it was announced that Disney had put a live-action remake of the 2002 animated feature Lilo & Stitch into development, and now we have a report from The DisInsider which reveals that the project is going down the Lady and the Tramp route and is being eyed as a Disney+ exclusive.
According to the site, the live-action/CG-hybrid remake is set to begin shooting in Hawaii this fall, with original Stitch voice actor Chris Sanders on board to reprise his role as the lovable ‘Experiment 626’.
Lilo & Stitch follows a genetically-engineered alien designed to cause chaos and destruction, who befriends a lonely young Hawaiian girl after escaping custody of the Galactic Federation and arriving on Earth.
As yet, there’s no word on any additional casting for the remake, nor a director, but the script has been written by Mike Van Waes (The Crooked Man) and Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich are producing. It is reportedly targeting a premiere on the streaming service in 2021.
