Live-action Miles Morales and animated Spider-Woman movies in the works at Sony

June 1, 2023 by Matt Rodgers

With Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse set to swing into cinemas this week (check out our ★★★★ review here), Producer Amy Pascal has teased that an animated Spider-Woman is in the works, along with a live-action Miles Morales movie.

While fans will be eagerly anticipating the third installment in the series, 2024’s Beyond the Spider-Verse, Pascal and long-time Spidey producer Avi Arad used the Across the Spider-Verse Los Angeles Premiere to tease future Spider-Verse projects.

Speaking with Variety Pascal revealed that following Across the Spider-Verse “It’s all happening”, and that includes the fact that a live-action Miles Morales movie is in the works at Sony, while Arad added that we would be getting an animated Spider-Woman spin-off featuring Hailee Steinfeld’s Gwen Stacy “sooner than you expect.”

Directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Justin K. Thompson, and Kemp Powers, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse features a voice cast that includes Shameik Moore as Miles Morales, Hailee Steinfeld as Gwen Stacy, Jake Johnson as Peter. B Parker, Oscar Issac as Spider-Man 2099, Issa Rae as Jessica Drew/Spider-Woman, Daniel Kaluuya as Spider-Punk, Karan Soni as Spider-Man India and Jason Schwartzman as The Spot.

Miles Morales returns for the next chapter of the Oscar®-winning Spider-Verse saga, Spider-Man™: Across the Spider-Verse. After reuniting with Gwen Stacy, Brooklyn’s full-time, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is catapulted across the Multiverse, where he encounters a team of Spider-People charged with protecting its very existence. But when the heroes clash on how to handle a new threat, Miles finds himself pitted against the other Spiders and must redefine what it means to be a hero so he can save the people he loves most.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is set for release on June 2nd, 2023.
