In an article over at Variety discussing former Sony executive Doug Belgrand, it has been revealed that the studio is developing a live-action Mulan movie, which will be shot in China with a Chinese financing partner and a mostly Chinese cast.
The project is one of six movies that Belgrand is co-financing at Sony, including Bad Boys For Life, Zombieland 2, Mallory, a Charlie’s Angels reboot and the live-action/CG hybrid Peter Rabbit.
Mulan is based upon the Chinese legend of Hua Mulan and tells of a legendary warrior woman during the Han Dynasty. There have been several film adaptations of the story, most notably Disney’s 1998 animated feature.
As it happens, Disney also has a live-action Mulan movie in development, with news breaking last year that the studio had snapped up a script from Elizabeth Martin and Lauren Hyneck.
