THR is reporting that Tokyo-based Tsuburaya Productions has tapped Starlight Runner Entertainment to reboot the classic Japanese superhero Ultraman across multiple platforms, including a possible live-action streaming series.
“Ultraman is one of my greatest childhood heroes,” said Starlight Runner CEO Jeff Gomez. “We’re honored to be embarking on this mission to bring this family of characters back to the world stage.”
A sequel to the Ultra Q TV series, Ultraman launched in 1966 and follows the high-tech police force Science Patrol and its giant hero Ultraman, who protect Earth from giant monsters and invading aliens. It spawned a host of TV sequels, movies and other media which continues to this day with the release of the live-action Ultraman Geed the Movie in Japan earlier this year.
In addition to the potential live-action series, Netflix is set to launch a 3D CG anime Ultraman series on April 1st 2019, and you can watch the trailer here.
