Last year it was announced that Paramount Pictures, Bad Robot Productions and Toho are teaming for a live-action adaptation of Makoto Shinkai’s hit 2016 anime feature Your Name, and now THR is reporting that filmmaker Lee Isaac Chung (Minari) has signed on to direct.
The film follows “a young woman living in a rural area and a young man from the city who discover they are magically and intermittently swapping bodies. When a disaster threatens to upend their lives, they must journey to meet and save their worlds.”
Chung takes over directing duties from (500) Days of Summer and The Amazing Spider-Man helmer Marc Webb, and will also rewrite the script which has previously been worked on by Eric Heisserer (Arrival) and Emily V. Gordon (The Big Sick).
Your Name was a critical and commercial success, with the film earning $303 million in Japan and a total of $358 million worldwide.
