During a presentation at the American Film Market, Bob Weinstein has announced that The Weinstein Company and Hasbro are teaming up for a live-action/CG-hybrid Furby movie, which is based on a spec script by Daniel Persitz and Devon Kliger.
As part of the presentation, Hasbro executives Stephen Davis and Josh Feldman touted the success of the Transformers and Ouija franchises for the company, with Davis stating that: “We think [Furby] can resonate as a four-quadrant film. It can’t just be a 90-minute commercial.” Feldman went on to joke that they have reached out to David Fincher to direct.
Furbies were originally released in 1998 by Hasbro subsidiary Tiger Electronics and enjoyed huge success, selling over 40 million of the toys in its fist three years. The property was revived in 2005, and again in 2012.
