THR is reporting that Logan helmer James Mangold has signed on to direct a live-action adaptation of Katherine Applegate’s bestselling Children’s book Crenshaw, which is being produced by Kickstart Productions for 20th Century Fox.
The description for the book reads: Jackson and his family have fallen on hard times. There’s no more money for rent. And not much for food, either. His parents, his little sister, and their dog may have to live in their minivan. Again. Crenshaw is a cat. He’s large, he’s outspoken, and he’s imaginary. He has come back into Jackson’s life to help him. But is an imaginary friend enough to save this family from losing everything? Beloved author Katherine Applegate proves in unexpected ways that friends matter, whether real or imaginary.”
Since the release of Logan earlier this year, Mangold has added several projects to his slate including a remake of Disorder, an adaptation of Don Winslow’s new novel The Force, and an X-Men spinoff focussing on Dafne Keen’s Laura / X-23.
