After years and years of waiting, Mahershala Ali is finally getting to don the iconic fangs of Blade. It’s been a bumpy ride, but according to a recent report, Marvel Studio’s Blade film tentatively has a production start date of November 1st.
With a writer in tow and two actors remaining (Ali and Mia Goth), it could be all steam ahead as soon as the five-year pre-production period wraps.
Around six writers, including Michael Green, Beau DeMayo, Nic Pizzolatto, Stacy Osei-Kuffour, and Michael Starrbury, all threw previously their hats in the race, but it didn’t stick. Recent reports suggest that Eric Pearson is the latest writer, with the Marvel scribe penning the film’s latest draft.
Another director is also needed, with Bassam Tariq (Mogul Mowgli) quitting after two years of working on Blade, and his replacement, Yann Demange (White Boy Rick), also recently left the project. No reports have indicated who could be the next director, but Jordan Peele did have a meeting with Marvel Studios.
