Louis C.K. and FX have been tight since as early as 2010 when the comedian launched his hit show Louie on their basic cable network. The show has brought to audiences a whole new level to self-deprecation-style humor and promises to continue to push boundaries with its upcoming fifth season coming later this year. C.K. has no doubt brought good things to the network, like Emmy nominations as well as wins, but now he has his sights on Better Things.
The new comedy pilot will feature longtime friend and fellow comedian Pamela Adlon in the driver’s seat, says Deadline. It aims to mirror her real life, playing an actress and a divorced mother and is being referred to as “a female version of Louie.” C.K., who co-wrote the pilot, will executive produce Better Things, through FX Productions and C.K.’s Pig Newton Productions, and direct the pilot episode.
Adlon will likely be hilarious as the lead in a show like Better Things. She has already done very well in C.K.’s Louie, appearing in 11 episodes and subsequently earning two Emmy noms. She has also written five episodes and acted as producer for almost half of the series. This next evolution in her career seems like a well-thought out next step for the female comedian and an exciting one for viewers.
Adlon previously performed voice work for Mike Judge’s Beavis and Butt-Head and went on to win an Emmy for her voicing of Bobby Hill in his King of the Hill. She also performed voice work on the still ongoing animated TV series Bob’s Burgers. As for live action, she has appeared on Parenthood and more recently on Californication.
