Lucy Liu to lead CBS dramedy Why Women Kill

February 13, 2019 by Ricky Church

Lucy Liu (Charlie’s Angels) has landed a lead role in Why Women Kill, a drama from CBS and creator Marc Cherry. The series is a female-centric drama/comedy that will premiere on the CBS All Access streaming service.

The series details the lives of three women living in three different decades: a housewife in the ‘60s, a socialite in the ‘80s and a lawyer in 2018, each dealing with infidelity in their marriages. It will examine how the roles of women have changed, but how their reaction to betrayal has not.

Liu will portray Simone, the ’80s socialite. She is described as “Elegant, stylish, effervescent, Simone is the picture of urbane confidence, moving through the world as if it were a delightful movie starring herself,” per the official character description. “Smugly superior, a woman for whom appearances mean everything, she thrives on shopping and throwing parties, seemingly happily married to her indulgent husband, Karl, who thinks she is simply fabulous. However, despite nagging premonitions, Simone is devastated, her world upended, when she learns that Karl has been cheating on her.”

Liu recently wrapped her work on the seventh and final season of Elementary as Joan Watson, Sherlock Holmes’ faithful friend and companion.

Cherry will executive produce Why Women Kill alongside Brian Grazer, Francie Calfo, Michael Hanel, Mindy Schultheis and Marc Webb.
