Last week it was reported that Lucasfilm and director James Mangold (Logan) have enlisted Fleabag’s Phoebe Waller-Bridge to star alongside Harrison Ford in Indiana Jones 5, and now comes word that her Rogue One: A Star Wars Story co-star Mads Mikkelsen has also joined the long-gestating sequel.
Plot details on Indy’s next adventure are being kept securely under lock and key, and there’s no word as to Mikkelsen’s role in the film (nor Waller-Bridge’s for that matter). However, further casting news is expected imminently, with the hope being to begin production on the film this summer.
Mikkelsen – who is coming off the Oscar-nominated Another Round – was recently cast in another major franchise, replacing Johnny Depp as Gellert Grindelwald in the third Fantastic Beasts movie. His casting in Indiana Jones reunites him with Disney, where he’s appeared in Rogue One and Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange.
While Steven Spielberg is handing over directing duties to Mangold, he remains heavily involved as producer alongside Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall, while John Williams will once again compose the score. However, George Lucas won’t be part of the reunion, making this the character’s first adventure without his creator on board.
