It looks like True Detective Season 3 has found it’s first cast member. Actor Mahershala Ali (Moonlight, House of Cards, Luke Cage) has officially been confirmed for the latest season of the true crime anthology series. Deadline reported that during HBO’s summer TCA presentation, HBO president of programming Casey Bloys not only revealed that the actor has signed on to star, but also expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming season.
Bloys revealed that he has read several scripts for True Detective Season 3. “They are terrific. … I was very impressed and excited,” he said. “We are talking to directors, and when we have a director we want to hire, it will be a go.”
The second season of HBO’s True Detective might go down in history as one of the biggest television disappointments of all time. The Emmy Award-winning first season was met with critical acclaim, particularly Matthew McConaughey’s mesmerising performance as the tortured Rustin Cohle. Perhaps it was the lack of Season 1 Director Cary Fukunaga, but Season 2 saw a noticeable drop in quality, with many people noting the confusing plot. HBO has even admitted itself that they rushed writer Nic Pizzolatto to quickly churn out a script. Let’s hope Season 3 fares better. It sounds like it’s already on a good track.
