Although a third season of True Detective may not have the green light from HBO just yet, THR is reporting that Oscar-winner Mahershala Ali (Moonlight) is in early talks about taking on the lead role in a new season of the anthology drama.
According to the site, HBO is yet to reach a deal with Ali, whose previous small screen roles include House of Cards and Luke Cage, and it is not yet certain that a third season will get the go ahead, despite the fact that Deadwood creator David Milch was brought in to work alongside creator Nic Pizzolatto back in March.
HBO scored a critical success with the first season of True Detective, which starred Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson; however, critics were less kind to the second, which had Colin Farrell, Rachel McAdams, Taylor Kitsch and Vince Vaughn as the leads.
