It’s been rumoured for a long while, but is now finally confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter: Game of Thrones‘ Maisie Williams and Split’s Anya Taylor-Joy have joined the cast of the X-Men spin-off X-Men: The New Mutants. Williams will portray Wolfsbane while Taylor-Joy is Magik.
New Mutants will be directed by Josh Boone from a script he wrote with Knate Lee. Over the last year, Boone has been teasing the roles of Magik and Wolfsbane, sharing fan art of Williams as Wolfsbane, while Taylor-Joy herself even hinted at her excitement at the idea and also teased a possible cameo by James McAvoy’s Professor Xavier in the film. However, according to THR’s Borys Kit, McAvoy won’t be appearing, nor has Nat Wolff been cast as Cannonball…

Magik has the power of sorcery and uses teleportation discs to travel while Wolfsbane struggles to reconcile her religious beliefs with her power to turn into a wolf.
The film will “focus on the angst-driven adventures of a diverse group of teens that include Native American Danielle Moonstar, Scots girl Wolfsbane, Brazilian ladies man Sunspot, a Kentuckian code-named Cannonball and Russian teen Magik” and a leaked piece of animation last year showed off the mutants against the villain Demon Bear.
X-Men: The New Mutants is reportedly scheduled to begin filming next month in Boston. It is set for release on April 13th 2018.
