One of the big question marks coming out of The Walt Disney Company’s acquisiton of 20th Century Fox is the fate of director Josh Boone’s X-Men spinoff The New Mutants.
Shot back in mid-2017, the film was delayed twice from its original April 2018 release date, with the studio reportedly unhappy with Boone’s take and opting to reshoot a large portion of the film for its current August 2nd 2019 date.
However, those reshoots have not taken place (and seemingly won’t), and with Disney now in control of the franchise, it’s been heavily rumoured that the movie will be pulled from its theatrical release and potentially dumped straight to Hulu or Disney+.
So, what exactly is going on with The New Mutants? Well, it seems even the cast are in the dark at this point, as Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams has revealed to Rolling Stone that she has no idea what is happening with the film.
“Who knows when the fuck that’s gonna come out,” said Williams, before stating that she’s recently spoke to her co-star Charlie Heaton (Stranger Things) and asked “What the fuck is going on with this movie?”
“Hopefully this interview will make everyone hurry up a little bit,” she added.

At this point then, it appears that The New Mutants remains in limbo, but with the Disney/Fox deal now finalised, perhaps we’ll get some official word on the project’s status in the near future.
The New Mutants is directed by Josh Boone (The Fault in Our Stars) and features a cast includes Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones) as Rahne Sinclair/Wolfsbane, Anya Taylor-Joy (The Witch) as Illyana Rasputin/Magik, Charlie Heaton (Stranger Things) as Sam Guthrie/Cannonball, Henry Zaga (13 Reasons Why) as Roberto da Costa/Sunspot, Blu Hunt (The Originals) as Danielle Moonstar/Mirage and Alice Braga (Queen of the South) as Dr. Cecilia Reyes.
