Deadline is reporting that Malin Akerman has signed on to produce and star in the action comedy Chick Fight, which reunites the actress with Paul Leyden (Come Back to Me), her director on the 2090 short film Bye Bye Sally.
As per the site, Chick Fight will see Akerman portraying a woman called Anna, a woman reeling from the death of her mother, discovering her loving and supportive father is gay, and accidentally burning down her insured coffee shop. After he best friend Charleen takes her to an all woman underground fight club, Anna slowly rediscovers herself, her inner strength and true purpose.
“When I read this script, I immediately knew I had found my next project,” said Akerman. “It’s outrageously funny, but it also finds a fun and unique way to look at female empowerment that I think will really resonate with audiences.”
Akerman can be seen on the small screen in Showtime’s Billions, and is currently shooting the Netflix feature The Sleepover for director Trish Sie (Pitch Perfect 3, Step Up All In).
