While Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) had an underwhelming performance at the worldwide box office, the film received favourable reviews from critics and audiences alike.
Now, in an interview with Den of Geek to promote The Suicide Squad, Margot Robbie, who executive produced the film and starred as Harley Quinn, provided an update on the status of a potential sequel.
“I don’t know if that is on the horizon anytime soon,” Robbie explained. “I don’t think it’s a no. But no, there’s no sequel in the works that I’m aware of at this stage.”
While Robbie isn’t completely ruling out a Birds of Prey sequel happening, the future of her character is still currently unknown as apart from having a major role in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, the actor is currently not scheduled to appear in any more DC films that we are aware of.
However, it’s hard to believe this will be her final outing as the fan-favourite character, and Robbie has a clear idea of what she’d like to see next, with the star telling Den of Geek:
“Trust me, I chew their ear off about it all the time. They must be sick of hearing it, but I’m like, ‘Poison Ivy, Poison Ivy. Come on, let’s do it.’ I’m very keen to see a Harley-Poison Ivy relationship on screen. It’d be so fun. So I’ll keep pestering them. Don’t worry.”

Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) is a twisted tale told by Harley herself, as only Harley can tell it. When Gotham’s most nefariously narcissistic villain, Roman Sionis, and his zealous right-hand, Zsasz, put a target on a young girl named Cass, the city is turned upside down looking for her. Harley, Huntress, Black Canary and Renee Montoya’s paths collide, and the unlikely foursome have no choice but to team up to take Roman down.
Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) is directed by Cathy Yan (Dead Pigs) from a script by Christina Hodson (Bumblebee) and sees Margot Robbie reprising her Suicide Squad role as Harley Quinn alongside Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Fargo) as The Huntress, Jurnee Smollett (Underground) as Black Canary, Rosie Perez (Fearless) as Renee Montoya, Ella Jay Basco (Grey’s Anatomy) as Cassandra Cain, Ewan McGregor (Christopher Robin) as Black Mask, Chris Messina (Sharp Objects) as Victor Zsasz, Ali Wong (Black Box), Robert Catrini (Jack Reacher: Never Go Back), Steven Williams (The Chi), Dana Lee (Dr. Ken), Francois Chau (The Expanse) and Matthew Willig (The Ballad of Buster Scruggs).
