One of the more polarizing elements of Star Wars: The Last Jedi was the film’s handling of Luke Skywalker. While many fans were expecting a massive spectacle to accompany Luke’s return to the fray, in reality, what we got was a lot more character-driven, and understated. Luke was definitely not tearing down Star Destroyers with the flick of his wrist in this one. No – Luke was damaged, conflicted, and met his end far away from the action (sort of). However, is it the end? Mark Hamill himself hopes not. Chatting with the BBC, the actor joked about where Luke might be instead:
“I refuse to believe that he’s gone. My theory is he just teleported to somewhere else and left his robe behind. He teleported to a nudist colony, that’s what I’m hoping.”
Okay, so he’s joking, but does he actually still hold out hope that Luke can return? Just a few days ago it was rumored that Colin Trevorrow was fired from Episode IX for disagreeing with Rian Johnson’s handling of Luke Skywalker. We also know that Hamill was a fan of Trevorrow’s plans for the upcoming sequel.
