Following the release of Transformers: Age of Extinction, it was reported that Michael Bay had decided to pass on the reins to the Transformers franchise to another filmmaker.
However, with the Transformers writers room in full swing, it seems Bay may have had a change of heart, as Mark Wahlberg has revealed to Collider that he expects to reunite with his Pain & Gain and Age of Extinction helmer for the fifth movie.
“I don’t [know the status of Transformers 5],” states Wahlberg. “Just that Akiva Goldsman and those guys are starting to write and break stories, and stuff like that. But Michael Bay is in Malta shooting Benghazi, and I’m in New Orleans shooting Deepwater. We’ll get together when he gets back. Yes [I think he’ll direct it].”
Bay is still attached to Transformers 5 as executive producer, but if he does decide to direct, it wouldn’t be the first time that he’d changed his mind, having previously suggested that both Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and Transformers: Dark of the Moon would be his last.
